A glance in the mirror reveals her innate grandeur, her mystical splendor. The majesty of a bygone era lingers in her step, moving with her sharara and twinkling in the zardozi around her wrists. She was born as a poem in the eyes of the great Sufis, and her allure is timeless.
Persia – the land of untold mysteries – is the inspiration for Sue Mue’s Fall-Winter 2018 couture collection Aafreen. The land where the legendary Sufi poet Rumi once spread his message of peace and love. The land that was the epitome of fine craftsmanship. Where magic began and glory reached its peak.
The geometry of the Persian rug and the graceful poetry of Farsi ghazals make their way into grand embroideries and traditional silhouettes. From silk threadwork to floral motifs, from sequined saris to loose kurtas with harem pants, this collection is an ode to the romance of history.
Translating to ‘pure soul’ or ‘alluring’ in Persian, Aafreen embodies quiet elegance and soft delight. Just like every motif in a Persian rug carries a deeper meaning, each pattern in this collection has been designed with heart and care.
Raw silk, tussar georgette, slub cotton, mulmul and tulle form the canvas, and the outfits are a feast of versatility and grace: from panelled or pleated kurtas, to lehengas and ghararas. The multicolour silk thread work with gold and silver zardozi, rice stitch, geometrical cross-stitch and single stitch all carry with them a lyrical message of passion and purity.
Rumi’s muse from another world looks at herself in the mirror. Her eyes glow with untold secrets, her smile reflects her ageless beauty.
Aafreen. The essence of the Sufi’s mystic love.
