Rooted in Sustainable Fashion

Eco-friendly fashion is the ‘in’ thing these days. At Sue Mue, however, we believe sustainability is not just a trend but the need of the hour. With increasing carbon footprint and inhumane practices of clothing production coming to light, it is imperative to encourage earth-friendly fashion.

Sustainability in luxury fashion is possible by adopting a ‘slow fashion’ approach to the production cycle, and by designing versatile pieces for trans-seasonal clothing. When a customer buys a Sue Mue product, it can be worn over a lifetime. We use pure cotton, silk and raw silk fabrics hand-woven in traditional looms. Our designs are classic and meant to last.

Our focus has been on endorsing artisanal crafts, recycling, and ensuring a safe, dignified working environment. We ensure the welfare of our staff with facilities that derive maximum results within the prescribed working hours, even if it comes at an added expense. All our karigars are provided with face masks to reduce the risk of developing asthma and heart ailments. We invest in waste management, such as making floor mats from leftover fabrics. Recycled paper is used for packaging and storage, and vegetable dyes are used during production.

(Our client Charu Sangwan got a few of her trousseau ensembles revamped to create absolutely two new ensembles for a recent wedding in her family.)

We also do our bit for sustainable couture by revamping heirloom clothes. Many brides like to redesign their mother’s bridal lehenga for their own wedding. Later, they can pair different pieces of an ensemble with an existing garment in their wardrobe or a new simpler piece. Wastage from couture pieces can also be used as trims in other ensembles or used to create accessories like potlis, purses, hair-bands, bangles and juttis.

This Earth Day, we encourage our consumers to develop their own sense of style rather than leaning towards fast, trend-driven fashion. It’s always fashionable to love your world.
